  • What technology mix can cost-efficiently ensure the security of supply and flexibility in a power system? 
  • What are the plans and renewables projects being developed by the Western Balkans frontrunners in the sector?

SESSION 1. A DIALOGUE WITH POLICYMAKERS: POWER OF NEED & ENERGY SECURITY IN THE WESTERN BALKANS

  • What impact has the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis had on the Western Balkans? Is it speeding up or slowing down the energy transition? 
  • How much progress have Western Balkan countries made in phasing out coal and moving towards clean energy sources? What is the impact of the energy crisis and to what extent can the new situation disturb the planned rate of coal abandoning?  
  • What are the plans with regard to carbon pricing in the face of the EU introducing CBAM (the carbon border adjustment mechanism)? What more can be done to accelerate the transition?
