VEB.RF and Rosatom intend to cooperate on a project to build a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — VEB.RF and Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation signed a cooperation agreement. The parties agreed to cooperate in the framework of the project for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan.

The ceremony was held during the XI International Forum ATOMEXPO-2019 “Nuclear technologies for a better life.”

On the part of VEB.RF, the document was signed by the vice-president Alexei Ternavsky, on the part of Rosatom – the financial director Ilya Rebrov.

The parties identified the following areas of cooperation: organization of financing and the provision of guarantees and letters of credit for the project, as well as advice on determining the optimal structure for financing the project.

“The signing of the agreement will further strengthen the strategic partnership between VEB.RF and Rosatom in terms of supporting the implementation of its foreign projects in Central Asia,” said Alexey Ternavsky.

“I am confident that the implementation of the project within the framework of the signed agreement will contribute to the solution of the global tasks of developing the nuclear industry and improving energy security,” said Ilya Rebrov.

The agreement on cooperation between VEB.RF and Rosatom was concluded in the development of an agreement signed in October 2018 between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Government of the Russian Federation.

The document envisages cooperation among countries in the design, construction, commissioning and operation of a nuclear power plant in the Republic of Uzbekistan 2 power units based on a water-cooled power reactor with installed capacity of each power unit up to 1.2 GW.
