In Uzbekistan, the gross potential of wind energy is estimated at 2.2 million TOE.
In 2017, Uzbekistan launched the first experimental wind power plant with a capacity of 750 kW (Tashkent region).
According to the presidential decree of July 19, 2018, which identifies important investment and infrastructure projects for the coming years, there are two projects for the construction of wind power plants.
In Baysun district of Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan, the Turkish company plans to build a wind farm. According to the regional khokimiyat (administration), the total cost of this investment project is $ 500 million. Currently, foreign partners are developing a feasibility study for the project. It is planned that the station will be commissioned until 2020. The capacity will reach 600 MW and will allow to supply two regions – Baysun and Sherabad.
In addition to the project being implemented in Surkhandarya by a Turkish company, the construction of a 100 MW wind power plant is planned in cooperation with Siemens in Zaravshan, Navoi region in 2019-2022. The cost of this project is $ 100 million.
